Police arrested 13 alleged Islamist activists last week in Barcelona, Madrid and Algeciras and charged them with helping the six terrorists who escaped from justice after the Madrid train bombings in March 2004. The Special Operations Group collaborated in the investigation. All the men arrested are Moroccans and police that six of the men made up a cell engaged in recruiting and financing Islamist extremists. They are investigating possible links to other groups. It’s the second time that the Barcelona area has been at the centre of such an operation. Fourteen men were arrested in January group, who were suspected of planning an attack against the city’s Metro.
