Nobody is safe from the current economic crisis – we just have different ways of confronting it. Some tighten their belts in an attempt to fatten up their bank accounts, while others seek a solution in the banks themselves – by robbing them. Police in Alicante caught two men in fraganti last week when they were trying to rob a branch of the Santander in the centre of the city. When questioned by the police, the men, who were both 55, said the real estate company they worked for had gone bust. Neither had a record and the police were inclined to believe them, especially as the robbery attempt had been very amateurish. But the judge they appeared for thought differently and sent them to jail provisionally without bail for robbery with intimidation.
