The National Transporters Platform, which has 25,000 member companies throughout the country, has threatened more strikes in three months time if the government does not take steps to alleviate the situation of a “sector which is in the red”. The Platforms’s member companies represent some 80,000 truck drivers, whose strike caused panic buying and emptied supermarket shelves three months ago. The Platform said the measures taken since then to help drivers have benefited large companies rather than smaller firms or self-employed drivers. If the government does not respond to the Platform’s demands, this Christmas could turn into a nightmare for consumers and store owners.
