JELLY FISH AS FERTILISER OR ANIMAL FEED

A study financed by Andalucia’s Technological Corporation has shown that the jellyfish which regularly invade the coastal waters could be turned into fertiliser. Researchers from the University of Malaga and the Oceanographic Centre set out to find a way to exploit the bothersome beasties commercially – on the premise that if they’re here we may as well get some us out of them – and concluded that, being so rich in proteins, they would be ideal as a fertiliser or even as dry food for animals. Last year, some 16,000 kilos of jellyfish were collected on Andalucia’s beaches.
