Sevilla City Council’s campaign against prostitution has come under fire from the owners of “locales de alterne” (singles’ clubs where the women are usually on the game). A spokesman for their National Association said it was not a crime to go to a prostitute. The council has been erecting billboards which ask: “You have so little self respect that you have to pay for it?” and point out that “prostitution only exists because you pay for it”. The club owners have been demanding laws to regulate prostitution since 2000.
