A 15-year-old boy was killed and six others aged between 13 and 17 were injured, two of them seriously, when a man driving without a licence lost control of his vehicle and ploughed into them as they were chatting on a pavement in San Bartolomé de las Abiertas in Toledo province last Friday lunchtime. The boy had been vacationing with relatives while his parents stayed at home in Madrid. The 35-year-old driver was also breaking the speed limit but tested negative for alcohol. He was not a resident of the small town (pop. 500) and the mayor is considering presenting a private accusation against him. He is currently in jail waiting for a judge to hear his case.
