In a flying visit to Spain during his upcoming European tour, Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez will meet King Juan Carlos at his summer residence in Palma de Mallorca on July 25th. It will be first meeting between the two since the King told Chavez to “shut up” at the Iberoamerican Summit in Santiago de Chile last November. The Venezuelan had tried to interrupt Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero several times as he addressed the summit until the King lost patience. The phrase “¿por qué no te callas?” (why don’t you shut up) became an instant hit on the internet and thousands of people downloaded it for their mobile phones. After the meeting with the King and his family, Chavez will fly to Madrid where he will be received by Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero at the La Moncloa palace. Zapatero and Chavez had already settled their differences at the EU-Latin American summit held in Lima in May this year. The visit is intended to normalise relations between the two countries which have been tense for some time.
