Three thousand people turned out for the funeral last Saturday of the latest victims of domestic violence. A 43-year-old Murcia man stabbed his wife and their two children aged six and four to death, then called the police and told them he wanted to give himself up. However, shortly after they arrived at the rural villa 3 km from the town of Yecla, the man shot himself dead with a shotgun. Police said the gun went off accidentally when they had fired a warning shot into the air, causing the man to press the trigger of the shotgun. The family reportedly had financial troubles, but neighbours said they had not noticed any problems and there had been no complaints of domestic violence. The man was well-known locally as a hard worker.
