The government of Gibraltar has written to the Spanish government to express its serious concern about unprovoked violent attacks in La Linea on Gib residents. In the latest attack, two young Gib residents were returning after a night out in La Linea when they were ambushed from behind. One of the victims suffered a broken arm requiring an operation. The incident occurred near the Chinese restaurant close to the frontier where similar attacks have happened in the past. A government spokesman said: “These unprovoked and violent attacks are becoming increasingly and worryingly frequent. Until Spanish Police deal effectively with the perpetrators, the Government advises residents of Gibraltar not to walk from La Linea town centre to the border late at night, but rather take a taxi. This situation is wholly unacceptable and the Government will urge the Spanish authorities to take urgent and effective action to counteract these assaults.”
