While Amy Winehouses’s appearance last Friday at the Rock in Rio Music Fest outside Madrid drew one of the biggest audiences, according to most reports she disappointed her Spanish fans, especially when she kept drinking a large glass of wine during her performance. But The Police made up for it. Critics compared Andy Summers’ solos to the best of Jimmy Hendrix, Bob Dylan or Eric Clapton and generally voted it the best concert given at the two-weekend-long festival. One critic described it in one word – sublime! – and another reminded us all that “old rockers never die” and, it could be added, show no signs of fading away either. The Police also performed in Valencia and Bilbao last week before their appearance at the Madrid fest. The group got together again last year for a world tour to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their formation.
