Benalmádena, Fuengirola and Mijas municipal councils have been awarded the the Platinum, Gold and Silver Brushes respectively for their efforts to keep their towns clean. The awards are made every year by the Technical Association for Waste Management and the Environment makes the awards every two years to towns throughout the country. They are based on both the technical methods used as well as the human work involved in keeping a town clean. Benalmádena mayor Javier Carnero said the award was “visible proof of the council’s efforts to keep the town and the environment clean”.
