Despite the spring rains, the Junta de Andalucia has announced that drought restrictions will continue in parts of Malaga province, which means that swimming pools in Alora, Cártama, Pizarra, Coín, Alhaurin de la Torre, Alhaurin el Grande and Málaga city can only be filled once this summer. The Director General of the Cuenca Mediterránea Andaluza, Antonio Rodríguez Leal, said there are 12,000 swimming pools in the area, according to the Junta’s census, and those who fail to comply with the restriction could face €6,000. Meanwhile, the Junta has also issued a warning about the high risk of forest and campo fires in the Axarquía region. A spokesman said Infoca’s fire-prevention plan is already under way, with a budget of €20 million and a full fire-fighting team of 4,000.
