The Egyptian government has asked the National Geographic channel to help fund the search for the sarcophagus of the Pharaoh Menkaure, which was lost in Spanish waters off Cartagena when the schooner Beatriz sank in 1838. The Beatriz was transporting the sarcophagus and other pieces to the British Museum. The sarcophagus had been discovered the previous year by the British archaeologist Howard Vyse. The Egyptians want Robert Ballard, the man who found the Titanic, to lead the search.
