Industry Minister Miguel Sebastian announced last week that as of July 1st, people who use the most electricity will pay the most. The overall rise in the rate will be between 5 and 6%. The so-called social rate for households that have an installed capacity of less than three kilowatts, comprising 18% of all users, that is, 4.5 million households, will benefit the most, and pensioners and people living alone who don’t have air conditioning or central heating could end up paying nothing. The remaining 20 million or so households will pay according to the sliding scale of the more you use, the more you pay.
