In the expectation that the current economic crisis will encourage many Spaniards to head for Andalucia’s beaches, Renfe announced last week that it will double the number of seats available between Madrid and Malaga by adding extra carriages to the Ave high speed trains. A spokesman said the number of seats available from Monday to Thursday on the eleven departures in each direction would be upped from the usual 7,900 to 16,000. On Fridays, the number of seats on the thirteen departures each way would go up from 9,570 to 18,000 or more. Just over 716,000 travellers used the high speed train service between Malaga and Mardi since between December 24th last year to the end of May, up 90% from the same period last year. And nearly 99% of the trains left on time.
