A court has ordered Sevilla City Hall to pay a local woman €24,000 in compensation for having endured the noise coming from a botellón (street drinking party) which has been held outside her house for the past three years. The court ruled last Thursday that the City Hall had been lacking in not protecting her from the noise and other damage caused by the street parties, stating that her health was more important than the use young people made of their leisure time. The claimant’s lawyer welcomed the sentence which he said was a step forward in the fight for the rights of citizens. He believed it was the largest settlement ever awarded in a claim against street parties.
