PRINCES AWARD GOES TO MALARIA FIGHTERS

This year’s Principe de Asturias Award for International Cooperation has gone to four organisations which are leading the fight against malaria in Africa. They are the Manjica health Research Centre in Mozambique, the Ifakara Health Research and Development Centre in Tanzania, Mali’s Malaria Research and Training Centre, and the Kintampo Health Research Centre in Ghana. It is not the first time the Principe de Asturias jury has rewarded the fight against malaria. They gave the 1994 award for Scientific and Technical Research to the Colombian doctor, Manuel Patarroyo, who discovered the synthetic vaccine against the disease.
