The Partido Popular group in Malaga’s provincial government is to present a motion to demand that the Junta de Andalucia and the central government in Madrid intervene to clean up Malaga’s coastline. One of their complaints is that while in Barcelona, the sand used to stock up the beaches is top quality and comes from the sea bed, in Malaga province the local councils tend to use inferior sand from streams and rivers and even building sites. They also said that bathers have to push their way through sold waste and foam when they want a dip in the sea. They said this was causing what they called “a loss of tourist credibility” in municipalities along the Costa del Sol.
