According to the First Report on Inequalities and Health in Andalucia, the people of the region have the lowest level of life expectancy in the country, as much as two-and-a-half years less than the richer regions like Navarra. The situation is worse in eastern Andalucia, which is predominantly rural with the lower standard of living that that entails, than in western Andalucia, where a higher percentage of people live in bigger towns with better social services. Women at all social levels are in poorer health than the men. More than 50% are housewives with a lower level of education while those who work do more menial jobs and less money, all of which has a negative effect on their health.
