True to its promise, the San Isidro Brotherhood in Alcaucín has already handed over a cheque for 500 euros to the first new born to be named after the town’s patron saint. The ceremony was held in the El Rosario Church in the main square last Thursday – May 15th – which is the Saint’s Day. The Brotherhood is worried that the name of Isidro will disappear from the town if parents are not encouraged to call their children – Isidra for girls is also acceptable – after its patron saint. Last week’s new arrival upped the number of males called Isidro to four.
