It sounded like a good idea at the time. Last December, Benalmadena town hall invited residents to get involved in the government of their town by attending council meetings to give their opinions about objectives, priorities, activities and public services. However, since then not one resident has bothered to come forward, and the councillor for Citizens’ Participation, Elena Galán, said last week that residents seemed “reluctant” to participate in project which she described as being ahead of its time. Not to be deterred, she reminded residents that if they have anything to say, they should go the to Town Hall five days ahead of the weekly meeting to put their names down.
