The number of fines meted out by Marbella Town Hall’s trade and industry department to bars, restaurants and discos for exceeding the noise limit more than doubled last year, up from 45 in 2006 to 112. Of these establishments, 72 were located in Puerto Banús and Nueva Andalucia. Another 50 establishments have been fined so far this year, making it look like another record breaker. The fines, ranging from 1,500 to 1,800 euros, are meant to be dissuasive, but repeat offenders face fines of up to 30,000 euros.
