Less than 200 people died on the roads in April, for the fourth consecutive month this year. In January, there were 174 deaths, and in February the number of deaths – 163 – was the lowest in 12 years. There were 173 deaths in March and 164 in April, the second lowest figure in 12 years. The number of road deaths have been dropping steadily since 2003. During the same four-month period that year 1,186 people died in traffic accidents, compared to 674 this year.
