The Basque terrorist group ETA celebrated Workers’ Day by setting off three bombs in the early hours last Thursday morning. The first bomb went off outside the Labour Ministry building in Arrigorriaga, Biscay province, at midnight followed half-an-hour later by bombs outside the Basque Social Security Institute and the Labour Welfare office, both located in San Sebastian. The police said the three combs contained 11 kilos of explosives – five in the first and three each in the other two – which caused considerable material damage but no human casualties. It was the first time ETA had ever carried out attacks on Workers’ Day.
