Murcia City Hall has given notice to the owners of some 4,000 homes that were built illegally in the region’s rural areas until January 31st next year to legalise their properties or face demolition. Illegally built warehouses are also included in the new crackdown. Legalising so many properties in such a short time is a tall order, given that only 80 homes were regularised in the region last year. By law, any property that was built over four years ago can be “regularised”, saving the owner from a hefty fine or – worse still – demolition. Similar moves are afoot in all the provinces of Andalucia as well.
