The Guardia Civil have recovered several tropical birds which were stolen from the El Retiro park in Malaga last October. Dubbed Operación Jacinto (Hyacinth Operation) after the most valuable bird that was stolen – the Blue or Hyacitnh macaw – the Guardia tracked down eight members of a gang who were selling the birds for 200 euros each to four operators on the black market who then dols them for between 800 and 1,000 euros. Because of their rarity, Blue macaws normally sell for around 36,000 euros. The Blue macaw is now back in its cage at El Retiro, along with the other parrots and standard macaws that were stolen.
