According to recent figures from the Andalucian Water Agency, Alhaurin El Grande is the town in the Guadalhorce Valley which consumes the most water in irrigating parks and green areas and filling swimming pools – 1.71% of the water used in the town. Coín is the town which uses the least water in these two areas – a mere 0.05% of the total. A spokesman for the council there said this was due to the success of a awareness-raising campaign about the proper use of water and ways to save it. None of the towns in the Guadalhorce valley use anywhere near as much water as towns on the coast, like Marbella which consumes the most water (26%9) or Mijas (17%).
