The National Police Ecija, Sevilla province, waited until after the funeral last Friday of the six members of the same family who died in a house fire the previous Sunday before arresting 15 men for smashing the windows of a fire engine and trying to assault them men inside. Scenes of the assault were shown widely on several TV stations. Local residents of Las Moreras district contend that the fire service took half an hour to arrive although the fire station records show that it took them five minutes to get the fire after receiving the alarm. The autopsy showed that all six were suffocated by smoke in their beds after a small heater left on in the living room started a fire. Ten of the men arrested were released with charges and ordered to register at the court on the 1st and 15th of every month until the case comes to court. Several of them have police records for drug trafficking and violent behaviour.
