Ronda Town Council has started as awareness-raising campaign aimed at pet owners, especially those with dogs, about the need to keep the streets clean. Isabel Barriga, the councillor responsible for the environment and parks and gardens, handed out leaflets to passers-by last Friday to remind them about the local animal law. She told reporters: “Animals can’t run loose on the streets, they can’t be fed in public places, especially in the case of the pigeons, but we are more concerned about the very serious problem of dog excrement.” The Local Police have already fined nine people since the animal law came into force, mainly for letting them run loose without microchips. A spokesman said they were also investigating five reports of cruelty to animals.
