Several local businessmen have offered to lend money to Alozaina Town Council which has had its bank account embargoed. When thanking the businessmen for their support, Mayor Francisco Guzman that a contractor who had not been paid 52,200 euros for 1,800 hours worked in 2003 had not offered the Town Hall any options to pay the debt but had proceeded immediately to the embargo. Sr Guzman said that town halls everywhere were usually given some leeway regarding their debts and that the embargo had no precedent at a national level. He said it was bad news for small towns where council budgets were tight at the best of times.
