RAISED SHIP COULD HAVE BEEN SUNK IN 1804

According to the daily newspaper El Pais, the treasure ship raised by the Odyssey Marine Exploration company in an undisclosed area of the Atlantic in 2006 was the Nuestra Señora de las Mercedes, which was literally blown sky high by English cannons during a sea battle of the Algarve coast of Portugal on October 5th, 1804. If proved true, the Spanish government will be able to claim half the value of the 500,000 silver and gold coins found on board the ship.
