POLICE BREAK UP CHILD PORN RING

The National Police arrested 41 people last Sunday in an operation against child pornography in Madrid, Andalucia, the Canary Islands, Cantabria, Castilla-Leobn, Catalonia, Valencia, Extremadura, the Balearic Islands, the Basque Country and Ceuta. Thirty five have been charged with possessing and distributing child pornography on the Internet and the other six have been charged with “grooming” minors in chat rooms. The police also seized 46 hard drives, three CPUs, ten laptops, 200 DVDs and three external hard drives containing millions of photographs. The operation began after the Technological Investigation Brigade (BIT) received information by e-mail that files containing child porn photos were being distributed on Peer to Peer networks. A police spokesman that the people arrested came from all walks of life and included architects, mechanics, construction foremen, students, air controllers and computer engineers.
