Dr Julio Delgado, an allergy specialist in the Virgen Macarena Hospital in Sevilla, has predicted that this Spring will be a “normal and quiet” one for hay fever sufferers because the low temperatures and lack of rain last Autumn lowered pollen levels across the country. He was one of 50 experts in the field who attended a Congress in Sevilla last week. They claimed that many more people are suffering from allergies as our immune systems are being weakened from living in an excessively hygienic environment. The Spanish Allergy and Clinical Immunology Society, SEAIC, has reported that 23% of the Spanish population now suffers from some type of allergy.
