LEY DE COSTAS TO BE APPLIED IN COSTA DE LA LUZ

The Ministry for the Environment, the Junta de Andalucía and several local councils have agreed to extend the ban on building within 100 metres of the highwater line along the Costa de la Luz to 200 metres, as permitted by the Ley de Costas. This is the first time the extension has been applied and it will affect 24 areas of outstanding beauty or environmental value covering 187 kilometres. Sixteen different municipalities are affected by the changes, including Barbate, Conil, El Puerto, Rota, Tarifa, Puerto Real, Trebujena, Sanlúcar, San Roque, La Línea, Vejer, Chipiona, Los Barrios, Chiclana and Algeciras. The Ministry for the Environment has also announced it will reward those projects which protect the coastline with financial help to improve coastal walkways or the construction of new paseo marítimos.
