The autopsy on Mari Luz Cortés, the five-year-old girl from Huelva whose body was found in a river on the outskirts of the city ten days ago, showed that she had been suffocated to death before she was thrown into the water. The report said that neither the blow to her head nor a cracked rib had caused her death and that these injuries were sustained when her murderer held her very tightly by the belt she was wearing while he or she covered her nose and mouth until she died, just hours after she disappeared on January 13th. Police believe a local person may have seen Mari Luz with her killer, but is too frightened to come forward.
