In an effort to reduce stress and anxiety in both staff and patients, Marbella’s USP Hospital called in experts who, after consulting a company which specialises in aroma marketing, recommended perfuming the building with talc, and a woody scent with a touch of peach. The smell of talc is used in the children’s sections because of its strong association with childhood, and the fresh peaches and woodland aroma is used in other areas to give a positive outlook. A spokesman for the hospital said the USP private health group plans to extend the new system to its other hospitals following the success of the Marbella pilot scheme.
