The Junta de Andalucia’s Mediterranean Area department is currently trying to work out how much water will be needed in ten years time to supply the Costa del Sol, Malaga city, the Guadalhorce Valley, Ronda, the Campo de Gibraltar as well as Cadiz province. These are areas considered susceptible to drought over the next ten years. The authorities reported last week that Malaga province received only 40% of the rain that normally falls in the wettest months of the rainy season – October to January – last year, increasing the probability of water rationing this year.
