Thieves broke into the zoo at Castellar de la Frontera in Cadiz province last week and made off with eight monkeys and a two-metre-long boa constrictor. Three of the monkeys are Barbary Macaques, the same species of tailless monkeys found on Gibraltar. Another is a cotton-top monkey, a species which is in danger of extinction. The Guardia Civil said all the animals are microchipped and their estimated value is about 28,000 euros. They fear the animals will be sold on the black market.
