According to the 2007 Sustainability Report prepared by Malaga University the 27-long-kilometre coastline on which Marbella, San Pedro de Alcántara, Nueva Andalucia and Puerto Banus are located, are the most built-up along the Costa del Sol. According to the report, nearly 62% of the land is occupied by “artificial uses”, that is, housing, hotels, bars, restaurants, clubs and businesses. The average for the rest of the Costa is 44%. The figures are borne out by a similar report from Greenpeace.
