CUSTOMERS HELD UP AT KNIFE POINT

Businesses in Alhaurin El Grande are on the alert following a spate of robberies in the town. Men armed with knives walked into Ferreteria Avenida on the outskirts of the town ten minutes before the shop, full of customers, was about to close for lunch one day last week. They took money from the till and the wallets from everyone in the shop. Local restaurants and bars in the centre of town have also been targeted in recent weeks, including Casa Paco and Café Bolin Bar. Alan Burns, at Santiago Restaurant, said: “Obviously we are all conscious of what’s happening. It’s wise to be cautious and aware although for businesses with an open door, it’s more difficult.”
