Some 1,500 official complaints have been made against the controversial plan to build a road to connect Alhaurin de la Torre with Coín and more than 5,000 signatures have been collected so far in support of scrapping the plan. The local council in Alhaurin el Grande has also commissioned three technical reports advising against the construction of the highway for environmental and economic reasons. Some 200 finca owners outside Alhaurin el Grande would have part or all of their land expropriated if the plan were to go ahead. After meeting the Junta de Andalucia’s highways’ director and the secretary for territorial planning last week in Sevilla, Alhaurin el Grande mayor, Juan Martín Serón, said the Junta’s Public Works department had already agreed not to support the plan, although no official announcement has yet been made.
