The red beetle plague is spreading inland. Coín town hall had to funigate some 300 palm trees around the town as a precaution after discovering a month ago that five trees were infected by the beetle. Three had to be cut down because they were too badly damaged but a spokesman for the Parks and Gardens department said they hoped to save the other two. He said property owners with palm trees on their land had been advised to be on the alert for any damage to them and to contact the council immediately they noticed any deterioration.
